The first step in making sure your vehicle is summer ready, is to check your air conditioning. You don’t want to be stuck in the heat during a California summer without AC!  Newer model vehicles will also have cabin air filters that clean the air before entering the cabin of the vehicle, so make sure to check those too.

Second, you will want to check your cooling system. This is the biggest reason for summer vehicle breakdowns. The system should be flushed and refilled about every 24 months, and a 50/50 combination of antifreeze and water is usually recommended. If you are doing this yourself, be sure not to remove the radiator cap until the engine has thoroughly cooled.

Next, check your oil. Your oil and oil filter should be changed about every 3,000 miles, but when you service your car in preparation of summer, this is a good time to check it. Other filters that should be changed, especially in dusty conditions, are air, fuel, and PVC. Other aspects that can be affected by dust and dirt are the window shield and wipers. Make sure the wiper blades are replaced as soon as they start streaking and fill up the windshield washer solvent as well. A qualified technician can help you with these services.
